What does it mean to work? I’ve heard people say that if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day for the rest of your life. Is that true? I don’t think so. I do what I love, yet there are moments where it distinctly feels like work. Long nights, stressful projects, difficult meetings… you know, the stuff that work is made of.
You know what though? There is a strange peace about all of it. In the midst of all the craziness, I find myself thoroughly enjoying the challenge, embracing the tension, and cherishing the “work.”
Here’s a glimpse into the meaning I find each day: I’m convinced that someone will attend Leadercast Live on May 9th, and reshape the way they lead in their family, their organization, and their community… there will be a ripple effect that causes a shift in culture for those around them, and for future generations. I fully believe that stories will be authored over and over again by the attendees of Leadercast Live.
We’re thrilled to have Malcolm Gladwell share at Leadercast this year. Malcolm is a best-selling author, thought leader, and highly respected researcher and journalist. He’s also a man of passion. Here’s a favorite quote:
“It’s not how much money we make that ultimately makes us happy between nine and five. It’s whether or not our work fulfills us.
Despite what culture tries to convince us, big paychecks do not make happy people. You’re not waking up in the morning excited to hit the office for a big paycheck… sure, maybe for a season, or a portion of your life… but not for the long-haul.
Find work you’re passionate about. Find out what you are uniquely created to do, and do that… I won’t lie and say that it won’t ever feel like work. It will. But it’s the kind of work that you’ll find a peace about. The kind that you’re excited to share with others and unveil to the world. The kind of work that makes you excited for Monday, not laboring towards Friday.
