Apparently all of you are as excited as we are to hear from this inspirational speaker, New York Times best-selling author, television host of the TV series, Crowd Control, and one of the top 10 business thinkers in the world.

If you don’t know Dan yet, read on and see what everyone’s talking about! His TED Talk about the science of motivation is one of the 10 most-watched TED Talks of all time, with 16 million views. His book, Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, spent 159 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into 33 languages. In it, Dan busts motivation myths and, based on 50 years of behavioral science, offers a better way to drive and achieve high performance.

In fact, all of Dan’s books have been bestsellers, because he knows how to get to the heart of the topics that mean the most to business leaders today. But why does his speaking spark so much excitement Because when he speaks, he gives his audience unconventional takeaways that are so relevant, they are often life-changing and work-transformational.

A few facts about Daniel Pink:

  • After getting his law degree, Dan worked in several positions in politics and government, including as chief speechwriter to Vice President Al Gore.
  • He is the author of the first American business book created in the Japanese comic format manga: The Adventures of Johnny Bunko: The Last Career Guide You’ll Ever Need. Illustrated by award-winning artist Rob Ten Pas, it’s the only graphic novel ever to become a BusinessWeek bestseller.

Quotable Dan
Want to sound smarter? Quote one of the leading thinkers on motivation, purpose and organizational behavior. Check out a few quotes from Daniel Pink’s best-selling books and podcasts:

  • On increasing engagement: “Control leads to compliance; autonomy leads to engagement.”
  • On creating personal fulfillment: “While complying can be an effective strategy for physical survival, it’s a lousy one for personal fulfillment. Living a satisfying life requires more than simply meeting the demands of those in control. Yet in our offices and our classrooms we have way too much compliance and way too little engagement. The former might get you through the day, but only the latter will get you through the night.”
  • On values-based selling: “Anytime you’re tempted to upsell someone else, stop what you’re doing and upserve instead.”
  • On motivation: “We have three innate psychological needs—competence, autonomy and relatedness. When those needs are satisfied, we’re motivated, productive and happy.”
  • On finding purpose: “We leave lucrative jobs to take low-paying ones that provide a clearer sense of purpose.”
