Crafting a Vision
At TOMS, we are inspired by the culture and landscape of the communities that we are privileged to be a part of. We strive to innovate and create products that can serve these communities with TOMS Giving. Through these efforts and the work of our TOMS Giving Partners, we are able to build a better tomorrow for those in need.
We are honored to share our stories with the Leadercast audience over the next year, and hope to inspire thoughtful leadership through our mission.
In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and discovered that they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS, a company that committed to match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need.
One for One®.
Realizing that One for One® could serve other global needs, Blake launched TOMS Eyewear in 2011 to help restore sight to people in need with every purchase of sunglasses and optical frames. In 2014, TOMS Roasting Co. launched with the mission to provide clean water to developing communities with the purchase of premium coffee. The most recent TOMS Giving is tied to the TOMS Bag Collection, which launched in early 2015, and helps provide safe births to mothers and babies in need through birth kits and skilled birth attendant training.
TOMS is in business to help improve lives. We identify a global need and create products to help address them. This simple idea is what makes us more than a company – we’re a movement that’s continually evolving.
Part of the Leadercast Community
TOMS is grateful to be a part of the Leadercast community. We have much in common; innovation, culture and our community of supporters fuel our movement. From our Giving Partners, who provide services to communities in which they work, to our supporters, who help share our story and take it beyond us. One example of this is One Day Without Shoes, TOMS’ annual global awareness day. During One Day Without Shoes, everyone who joins us takes off our shoes to raise awareness about those who go without shoes everyday. From May 5th – 21st, 2015 we are asking our supporters to post a photo on Instagram using #WITHOUTSHOES. For every photo posted, TOMS will donate a pair of new shoes to a child in need.
